Professor of People, Organisation and Work, College of Business and Law RMIT University

Professor Johanna Macneil is Professor of People, Organisation and Work in the College of Business and Law at RMIT University.  Johanna’s research, teaching and consulting for more than 30 years has been on understanding and improving genuine cooperation at work to achieve gains for workers and organisations. In recent years, Johanna has been interested in the blurring boundaries between industrial relations, work health and safety and discrimination at work; for example, how to effectively and equitably address psychosocial hazards at work; and the role of third parties, including government tribunals and agencies, in ensuring decent, safe work.  Johanna’s current role at RMIT is to encourage and accelerate measurable and positive social change generated by her colleagues as they work with industry and social partners. Prior to this appointment Johanna was Dean of RMIT”s School of Management. She also worked for 16 years at The University of Newcastle, for the last five as Assistant Dean, Learning and Teaching for the Faculty of Business and Law, and Professor of HRM and Employment Relations. Johanna is a member of the Scientific Committee for the forthcoming ILERA World Congress in Sydney in 2027.
