Mark Bray
Emeritus Professor, University of Newcastle
Professor Mark Bray is Emeritus Professor at the University of Newcastle. He also holds Honorary Professor positions at RMIT University and the University of Sydney. He has spent over 40 years researching and teaching Australian industrial relations. In 2019, he was awarded the Vic Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award by the Association of Industrial Relations Academics of Australia and New Zealand and, earlier this year, he became a Life Member of the Industrial Relations Society of NSW (Newcastle Branch). Between October 2024 and March 2025, he and Professor Alison Preston undertook a review of the first main tranche of labour laws passed by the Albanese government, the Secure Jobs, Better Pay Amendment Act (see https://www.dewr.gov.au/workplace-relations-australia/review-secure-jobs-better-pay-act). The Final Report of this review included an Appendix examining key issues surrounding productivity and industrial relations.
