Shaun Schmitke
Director, Workplace Relations
Shaun Schmitke leads the Australian Chamber’s Workplace Policy team, working to ensure the regulation of work in Australia is globally competitive, and supports investing, creating jobs and doing business in this country. A critical part of this is working with the Chamber’s unique network of employer representatives to develop the policy ideas and approaches that will support business in delivering work opportunities and high standards of living now and into the future.
Shaun and his team regularly advocate on behalf of the Australian business community to parliamentary committees, industrial tribunals and a wide range of inquiries and reviews on major national workplace relations matters. Shaun also represents the Chamber network on Australia’s National Workplace Relations Consultative Council (NWRCC) and its sub-committees on workplace relations legislation and international labour relations.
Prior to joining the Australian Chamber in early 2025, Shaun was the Deputy CEO and National Director of workplace and safety policy with Master Builders Australia. He has also previously held workplace relations roes at the Australian Industry Group, Motor Traders Association, Pharmacy Guild, ClubsNSW and the NSW Employers Federation.
Between 2008 and 2015, Shaun worked in both the Leader of the Opposition and then Prime Minister’s office providing a range of workplace and business policy advice to senior federal government cabinet ministers and politicians on a legislation and policy, including the Minister for Employment, Attorney-General, Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for Industry & Trade and Minister for Small Business.
